Initial Findings / Painpoints:

British Airways aimed to increase recycling efficiency and encourage proper waste disposal. They needed a solution that could streamline the recycling process and make it easier for passengers and employees to engage in responsible waste disposal.

Before the revamp, passengers faced a mix of bins that made waste disposal confusing. They were also dealing with inconsistent waste streams, hard-to-read signage, and an overall untidy infrastructure, and it was hard for passengers to dispose of waste properly.

The existing systems simply weren’t up to the task of supporting the airline’s sustainability initiatives.

Unisort solutions:

We helped British Airways solve these issues effectively, by providing solutions aligned with the British Airways, BA Better World Sustainability Pledge

Custom Recycling Stations
We designed bespoke recycling stations to help create a more uniform and visually appealing waste management/recycling system across the estate.

Tailored & Customised Signage
Clear, customised signage was developed for each area of the estate, ensuring passengers could easily identify where to dispose of specific types of waste effectively.

BA Better World Logo
The addition of the BA Better World logo on each station reinforced the airline’s commitment to sustainability.

Continuous Liner System
A revolutionary feature was the continuous liner system that reduces plastic consumption by up to 80%. This innovative solution made the process more sustainable and more cost-effective by reducing the amount of plastic waste produced.

The Unisort Liner System

One of the biggest challenges with traditional waste management systems is the inefficiency of waste bags. Often, standard bags are only 1/3 full when they are disposed of, wasting plastic and generating unnecessary CO2 emissions. With the Unisort Liner System, however, the process is much more efficient.

The system cuts only the bag length needed, reducing plastic waste by 80%. Specially designed liners are 50% thinner but up to four times stronger than traditional liners, further enhancing the system’s eco-friendliness.

Unisort’s solutions made recycling easier, more engaging, and more efficient for British Airways. By providing streamlined systems and clear signage, passengers and employees could now properly dispose of their waste, contributing to a significant reduction in CO2 emissions and plastic waste.

With over 10 years of experience and more than 1,700 clients, Unisort’s approach has been tested and refined to meet the highest standards of sustainability.
